I got a phone call several weeks ago from the Assistant Director of Kent District Library, a place where I worked from 2002-2006. It turns out that my old job as Communications Assistant - a job that I really loved - was recently made part-time, 24 hours a week. She wanted to let me know, in case I wanted to apply.
Long story short - I applied, I interviewed, I got the job, I start next Monday. Whew!
I'm excited, I'm nervous, and I feel like this was an unexpected gift from God. My mom and Dave's mom will be watching the kids while I work. It's so nice to know that Jackson and Haley will be cared for by people who love them like I do. Grandma's make the best babysitters... at least in our case.
As my days as a full-time stay-at-home mom come to an end, my hope is that though my time with the kids will be less frequent, that it will also be more cherished. Less quantity, more quality. I loved having these last few years at home full-time with the kids, and I honestly wasn't really looking to change things. But I believe that God opened this door, and He is encouraging me to walk through it. So I will.
Tonight I send out a big BRAVO to all the stay-at-home moms, all the working moms, and those that do some of both. Each choice comes with sacrifice, rewards, and lots of hard work. Some of the best moms I know work, and some of them don't, but they all adore their kids and do what is best for their family. Kudos to you!

Wow, Katie! Congratulations!! I can see you being so good at that job! I also know your heart for being a mom so I will be praying for you during this transition...that you will continue to experience God's peace knowing you are walking in His will and that you, Jackson and Haley will be incredibly blessed by your obedience! Also, well said on all the different roles of moms...I couldn't agree more!
We're very excited that you'll be joining us (again)!
